2011「尼康香港青少年公開賽 -
國際乒聯青少年巡迴賽」今日圓滿結束，香港繼團體賽事取得1金2銀4銅之後，在最後一日賽事再添3金2銀及5銅，其中香港少年隊（15歲以下）更包攬男、女子雙打金牌，而李清韻/吳嘉儀更喜出望外，在青年組（18歲以下）女子雙打連挫中國及日本而封后。令港隊在今屆賽事累積獎牌達17面，包括４金、4銀，9銅。

Zhou Qihao Announces Arrival, Junior
Boys’ Singles Crown Secured on Debut
China’s Zhou Qihao won the Junior Boys’
Singles title at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Sunday 7th
August 2011 and, in so doing, became one of the youngest winners in the
history of the ITTF Junior Circuit.
Zhou Qihao is 14 years old and, being born in January 1997, he is
eligible to play in the cadet age group, let alone junior age group
events.
Not only is he eligible to compete in the cadet age group in 20011, he
is young enough to play in such events in 2012!

Ruochen Wins in Hong Kong to Open ITTF Junior Circuit Account
No world ranking and if she was not from the
People’s Republic of China it would have been a massive shock; 17 year
old Gu Ruochen won the Junior Girls’ Singles title at the Hong Kong
Junior and Cadet Open in Sunday 7th August 2011 and in so doing donned
her first ever ITTF Junior Circuit Girls’ Singles crown.
Victory for China was to be anticipated, three of the four Junior Girls’
Singles semi-finalists were from the world’s table tennis superpower,
the trio had won the Junior Girls’ Team event in style earlier in the
week and none had been troubled en route the penultimate stage in the
singles event.

Singles
Winners
It was celebration time for Chinese Taipei
on the concluding day of action, Sunday 7th August 2011, at the Hong
Kong Junior and Cadet Open.
Liao Cheng-Ting and Huang Hu-Wen, both 15 years old, upset the seeding
to win the respective Cadet Boys’ and Cadet Girls’ Singles titles in the
splendid setting of the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.
The success recorded by Huang Hu-Wen was not to be anticipated; seeded
no.6, her status did not suggest that she would stand proudly on the top
step of the medal podium when the curtains closed.

Chinese Trio Continues in Relentless Manner to Reach Semi-Finals
Three Chinese teenagers completed the first
phase in the Junior Girls’ Singles event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior
and Cadet Open, in first place in their respective groups.
All three, the full complement, thus reserved places in the main draw.
One day later, on Saturday 6th August 2011, when play came to a
conclusion, all three remained standing; all three reserved semi-final
places.
Just as in the Junior Girls’ Team event earlier in the week, when they
had secured the top prize, they gave performances of sheer class and
technical excellence.

Two Progress to Penultimate Stage but Next Two Bid Farewell
Chinese Taipei’s Hung Tzu-Hsiang and Japan’s
Yuto Muramatsu, the top two seeds in the Junior Boys’ Singles event at
the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, duly progressed to the
semi-final stage of proceedings, following successes on Saturday 6th
August 2011.
However, for the next two names on the order of merit, the news was not
good.
Both Japan’s Asuka Sakai and the host association´s Chiu Chung Hei, the
respective third and fourth seeds, bid farewell at the penultimate
stage.

Boy Remains Firm as Leading Names Fail to Reach Semi-Finals
The host association’s Hung Ka Tak survived.
However, for the remaining names in the top four in the Cadet Boys’
Singles event at the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Saturday
6th August 2011, there were no semi-final places reserved.
Brazil’s top seeded Hugo Calderano suffered a quarter-final defeat at
the hand of Hung Ka Tak’s compatriot Lam Siu Hang (9-11, 13-11, 11-9,
8-11, 12-10); whilst third seeded Padasak Tanviriyavechakul of Thailand
and Hong Kong’s fourth seeded, Li Hon Ming, also departed before
reaching the penultimate round.

男子少年雙打賽，香港林兆恒/李漢銘及關文皓/鄺啟軒兩個組合，今日(8月6日)齊齊闖入四強，並會在明日(8月7日)爭決賽資格，故港隊亦坐擁銀、銅牌，期望「衝金」。

Japan hit trouble as matters commenced in
the first phase of proceedings in the Junior Boys’ Singles event at the
Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on Friday 5th August 2011.
The trouble was China, the Japanese players experiencing problems were
Yuto Muramatsu and Asuka Saki; the players to cause the problems were
China’s Zhou Qihao and Zhang Cheng.

Chinese Girls Once Again Exert Authority on Proceedings in Hong Kong
The Chinese trio of Zhao Yan, Hu Limei and
Gu Ruochen dominated matters in the Junior Girls’ Team event at the
Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open by clinching the title with the
loss of just one individual match.
Only Chinese Taipei’s 17 year old Chen Szu-Yu was able to make any
impression; she beat Hu Limei but on the following day, in the Junior
Girls’ Singles event, she could not repeat her feat and bowed to Chinese
excellence.

The top two seeds in the Cadet Boys’ Singles
event at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open both emerged unscathed in
the group stage of proceedings on Friday 5th August 2011.
Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and the host association’s Hung Ka Tak both
finished in first place in their respective groups.
Similarly, it was a successful day for fourth seed, Hong Kong’s Li Hon
Ming.

Defeat to Clinch Sensational Gold
A surprise defeat on the opening day of play
for Chinese Taipei, the second seeds in the Junior Boys’ Team event at
the Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open, but when matters concluded on
Thursday 4th August 2011, they stood the tallest.
Second place in their group in the first stage; Hung Tzu-Hsiang, Lee
Chia-Sheng and Lai Yi-Yao had lost to the Japan ‘B’ team comprising
Masahiro Otsuka, Tonin Ryuzaki and Ryotaro Ogata.
However, the young men from Chinese Taipei responded in style to clinch
the precious title.

Junior and Cadet Open
Impressive on the first day of play, the
Chinese outfit comprising Zhao Yan, Gu Ruochen and Hu Limei continued
their relentless progress on the second day of action, Thursday 4th
August 2011, in the Junior Girls’ Team event at the Nikon Hong Kong
Junior and Cadet Open.
Only Chen Szu-Yu, who had celebrated her 17th birthday three days
earlier on Monday 1st August, was able to make any impression.
She overcame Hu Limei (11-7, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9) in the semi-final
contest that saw China post a three-one victory over Chinese Taipei.

He who laughs last, laughs longest; that was
certainly the case for the Chinese Taipei trio of Yang Heng-Wei, Liao
Cheng-Ting and Huang Chien-Tu at the Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open on
Thursday 4th August 2011.
One day earlier, in their very first encounter in the Cadet Boys’ Team
event, they were beaten by the Hong Kong trio of Li Hon Ming, Lam Sui
Hang and Hung Ka Tak; the result did not raise the eyebrows. |

Chinese Teenagers
Emphatic displays by China in both the
Junior Boys’ and Junior Girls’ Team events at the Hong Kong Junior and
Cadet Open on Wednesday 3rd August 2011 upset the seeding, in fact they
turned to order of merit upside down.
Listed in the final seeded place in the Junior Boys’ Team event, the
trio of Zhang Cheng, Zhou Qihao and Liang Jingkun finished the day
without any member of the outfit being extended the full distance.
Meanwhile, in an almost similar manner the Junior Girls’ outfit
comprising Zhao Yan, Gu Ruochen and Hu Limei never surrendered a single
match.

States was the star player for the ITTF World Hopes Teams on the first

Representing the ITTF World Hopes ‘A’ Team in the Cadet Boys’ Team
event, he remained unbeaten throughout the day.

Top seeds Japan and second seeds Chinese
Taipei both experienced shock defeats in the Junior Boys’ Team event on
the opening day of play, Wednesday 3rd August 2011, at the Nikon Hong
Kong Junior and Cadet Open.
Staged in the splendid surroundings of the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium;
the Japanese trio of Yuto Muramatsu, Asuka Sakai and Yuto Higashi
suffered against the home based outfit comprising Chiu Chung Hei, Daryl
Hung and Lin Jinglie.
A shock defeat for Japan but earlier in the day it had been the reverse
scenario for the Land of the Rising Sun.

賽前獲本地「乒壇大哥」李靜力撐而揚言在男團賽以「衝金」為目標的港將趙頌熙，在今午(8月3日)對日本Ａ爭小組首名出線的關鍵戰役為港隊扭轉乾坤，成為港隊先負後勝的贏波功臣。

an international tournament and there are ceremonies to fulfil the time
honoured function, which stand out in the mind
At the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong on Tuesday 2nd August 2011,
the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association went the extra mile. They held a
ceremony of which the longest reigning British monarch after whom the
premises are named would have been justly proud.

Scheduled for Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd
November 2011, the Peace and Sport Cup, where players from countries
that have been in conflict in the past join forces will take place in
Doha, Qatar.
It is a commendable concept; sport uniting people from different
backgrounds and people just being regarded as human beings without
prejudice or prejudged concepts.
However, has the Peace and Sport Cup been upstaged by the Nikon Hong
Kong Junior and Cadet Open due to start on Wednesday 3rd August 2011. |

Wearing the Shirt with Pride, the ITTF World Hopes Team Heads for Hong
Kong
It is now less than one year to the lighting
of the Olympic Flame to signal the start of the 2012 London Olympic
Games; the torch starts its journey at Land's End on Saturday 19th May
and travels 8,000 miles round the United Kingdom before arriving at the
Olympic Stadium on Friday 27th July to ignite the cauldron.
Immediately prior to the ceremonial moment, the athletes and principal
delegate will enter the arena. They come from the four corners of the
earth, from whole range of cultures, political systems, ethnic
backgrounds and economies but they all have one factor in common. They
are wearing their nation’s shirt with pride.

Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open Setting New Standards
Shining like a beacon in a star lit sky, the
Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open is the pearl of the ITTF Junior
Circuit.
A Premium event, It is the tournament that in the past two years has set
the standards for others to follow.
In 2011 it is set to maintain and even raise
those standards. The tournament, staged from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th
August, will once again be held in the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. A
splendid setting for the five day event, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium was
opened in 1980 and has a 3,500 seating capacity. |

國際乒聯青少年巡迴賽」再度獲國際乒聯評為2010年度「國際乒聯青少年巡迴賽」最佳賽事。
以10分作為最高評分中，「尼康香港青少年公開賽」獲得9.4分，力壓其餘23個賽站主辦單位，連續兩年獲此殊榮。
在此，香港乒總非常感謝賽事冠名贊助商“尼康”(Nikon)及一眾贊助商一直以來對本會及這個賽事的大力支持。

In a Special Administrative Region of the
People’s Republic of China, the Nikon 2011 Hong Kong Junior Open has a
special place on the ITTF Junior Circuit.
The speciality is excellence, not only excellence in the playing level
from the region; also in tournament organisational standards.
In 2009 the first Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open received high
accolades, the praise was repeated on 2010; now, in 2011 from Wednesday
3rd to Sunday 7th August those standards will not only be maintained,

Invitation to Umpire at Nikon Hong Kong Junior and Cadet Open
Acclaimed in both 2009 and 2010 as one of
the very best organised and promoted tournaments on the ITTF Junior
Circuit, the Nikon Hong Junior and Cadet Open will be staged in 2011
from Wednesday 3rd to Sunday 7th August.
The Hong Kong Table Tennis Association invites six International Umpires
to officiate in the event.
Applicants should be Blue Badge Umpires or candidates for the Blue Badge
candidate.
